Im posting this almost a week late- I was away on Vacation and couldn’t start/finish typing this blog.
Anyway, there isn’t all that much to tell as of this week. The Cornish are growing at a decent and steady weight. They continue to eat more than their fair share of food, some eating much more than others.
As of right now, we are still in the process of finding someone who can butcher the birds for us, as we did last year. Unfortunately the people who butchered for us last year may not be in business due to Covid. We will keep searching!
Also, just to add- these guys are no longer on heat. Normally after 2-3 weeks old, Cornish are able to start to regulate their body temperature without the need for heat! So that’s saving us some money! The mystery chicks that are with them still need heat at night- for now. So for the time being they have one lamp on in the building. Thankfully within the next 2 weeks the Cornish will be moved outside! If it would stop raining for more than a day I’d go out and get their house ready for them and move them in sooner! they will be moved into the ‘turkey’ coop I built that the turkeys don’t actually use like I had hoped. (The coop looks pretty bad in the picture below, I have not taken an updated picture as of the 3rd of August)
